This video introduces us to one of England's oldest and most interesting
cities. We see the story of the Romano-British martyr saint to whom
it owes its name, take a tour through the famous and exceptionally beautiful
abbey and then proceed to explore the city itself. We trace its origins
to the important Roman city of Verulamium, with its turbulent history and
discover how the Romano-Britons lived - a comfortable and amazingly "modern"
life style some 1700 years ago! We also look at the later history
of St. Albans and the part it played in the Wars of
the Roses, find out about its ghosts, surroundings, picturesque
old pubs, people and its place in today's world as a busy and prosperous
city, full of life and colour.
